Aleitha Ward, BFA (Art), MPS, RSW, is a Registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers and a Professional Member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art) with Great Distinction from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Psychotherapy and Spirituality (Art Therapy Specialization) from St. Stephens College. Aleitha is trained in Trauma-Informed Art Therapy, advanced EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Gottman Couples Therapy (Level 1). Aleitha also has extensive training in loss, grief and bereavement issues. She has worked in the human service field for over 30 years.
Aleitha is in private practice with aletheia Art Therapy and Counselling Services. Aleitha is also a co-creator of The Medicine Tree Healing Arts Centre. Her preference for art as therapy empowers her counselling practice with creativity, discovery, and the enhancement of resilience. She believes that creativity is an inherent quality of the human condition and that expression is essential to personal growth and healing. Aleitha uses a person-centered approach to therapy and integrates multi-modal expressive arts, narrative, cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, sensorimotor, EMDR, and systems concepts and strategies. Aleitha works with adult and adolescent individuals, as well as couples and groups.
